Do you know what a boiled egg is?

Sometimes what I say is not always what I mean...
For example, one day I was eating boiled eggs and bread, while skyping Jacqui and Meg. I then randomly asked them - "Do you know what a boiled egg is?" As you can imagine, I was met with laughter as they pointed out that this was quite a silly question and of course they know what boiled eggs are...
YUMMY!!!

However, the way I meant it was this...
In February 2010, I went to Hollywood with my school and each morning we ate breakfast at the hotel diner. Anyway, on the menu it said that if you order eggs you can have them cooked anyway you like it. So when I order I tell the waitress I would like my eggs boiled, this is how the scene played out:
Waitress: Sorry honey?
Me: Please can I have my eggs boiled
Waitress: Do you mean scrambled honey?
Me: No, I mean boiled
Waitress: Oh, like poached?
Me: No, boiled. You know when you dip a slice of bread or toast into the yoke?
Waitress: We can do them sunny side up if you want honey
Me: So do you not do them boiled then?
Waitress: I'm sorry honey, must be a British thing.

So I was amazed that they didn't know what I meant by it and then to be told it was a British thing. So that is what I meant when I asked Jacqui and Meg if they knew what boiled eggs were. So in the future, sorry if I come across extremely stupid, I don't seem to have the skill of explaining the background of a question before asking it...

As always, I love and miss you all xx
